A Bridge Can Serve as an Effective Alternative to a Dental Implant

Missing a tooth can cause a plethora of different complications in your mouth. Beyond the obvious impairments to your ability to chew, changes in your appearance, and possible alterations in your speech, the void in your mouth can also cause orthodontic problems. As time goes by, the teeth neighboring the void can start to turn and drift toward the void.

Fortunately, the oral care specialists at Family Dental of Roscoe’s Chicago, Illinois practice have a variety of methods to restore the tooth’s presence in your mouth, before undue complications can set in.

A dental implant, mounted with a crown is a very effective method for restoring the tooth’s presence in your mouth. However, this might require one or two invasive oral surgeries, and related recovery time. If you’re uncomfortable with these factors, we might recommend restoring the tooth by installing a bridge.

Our dental specialists will start by removing the tooth enamel from each of the neighboring teeth to form a pair of post-like abutments. This creates a small protective sheath housing the healthy pulp, and the root of the tooth. The two abutments will eventually serve to anchor the final bridge in your mouth.

We will then create a detailed impression of the abutments as well as any other corresponding teeth. This will be sent to a dental lab, to help guide them as they create your bridge

When it’s ready we will cement the bridge onto the abutments with a strong dental adhesive. This will restore the tooth’s presence in your mouth for many years ahead.
