Just a Reminder: Keep Your Daily Oral Health Habits Sharp

Posted .

You should brush and floss daily in order to maintain the health and cleanliness of your teeth. No matter if you practice these things daily or are just learning the basics of oral health care, it’s always a good idea to go over a reminder of why these things are necessary.

Regular brushing and flossing are needed to help prevent the spread of plaque. Plaque is a film of bacteria that forms on and between teeth and wreak havoc on your teeth if you do not clean them on a regular basis through brushing and flossing. If you do not clean your teeth, the plaque can turn acidic and wear down your enamel, forming dark pits in them. These dark pits are what are referred to as cavities.

If plaque is allowed to continue to build up from the bacteria and its waste products into a substance called tartar. This solid substance will feel like it’s actually part of the tooth’s surface and can lead to gingival disease as well as bone loss.

This is why the preventative measures of daily brushing and flossing are important to keep these conditions from happening. You should also consult with our dentists every six months for regular cleaning and consultations.
